Travel: New York City: Empire State Building: 1.12.10

All of these photos were taken from the top of the Empire State Building.

Thesis: Site: Model: Process

Process of working on my conceptual sewn topography model.  The thicker red line indicates the Freedom Trail, the other colored threads represent the subway lines, and the black stitches represent the many intertwining streets of Boston.  The model is about 3 feet long by 1.5 feet wide.

Photography: The Mission Church: Boston

Yesterday we had some very weird weather... (typical Boston weather none the less) I tried to capture the snow flurries in front of the Mission Church.  The sky kept burning out... I had a lot of trouble getting the metering correct.  I tried photoshopping the image to get some color into the sky, but it just looks really grainy and distorted.... I'm sure there will be many more chances for me to take photos in the snow this winter!!

Thesis: Site: Analysis: Figure Ground

Below are some diagrams of the Freedom Trail for Urban Cliche' to Civic Engagement: Accessibility and Diversity on the Freedom Trail.

Above is a diagram reflecting the waterfront edge properties in downtown Boston.

Above is a diagram reflecting the buildings directly adjacent to the Freedom Trail.

Above is a diagram reflecting the buildings not immediately adjacent to the Freedom Trail (typically one street away from the Trail).

Above is a diagram reflecting both the directly adjacent buildings and the secondary adjacent ones (blue represents the secondary adjacent buildings).

Above is a diagram reflecting both the directly adjacent buildings and the secondary adjacent ones.  This diagram shows the same information as the previous one, yet this one shows the two conditions as a mass of buildings.

Above is a diagram I am currently working on showing buildings adjacent to green spaces within the urban environment.

Thesis: Site: Analysis: Model

This is an image of one part of my 8 foot study model.

Thesis: Site: Analysis: Survey: Results Diagram

Below is a visual diagram of results from my initial survey.  These are only a few of the many quotes people left for my use.  Thank you all for your input!  I will be using this diagram of results to begin documenting the results in a more visually stimulating manner than a spread sheet.
